Wifi And Laptop - A Tempting Combination

The internet easily ranks among the best innovations of recent times. Information is now available to anyone at the click of a button. The catch is that internet is available is almost everywhere. The word to be noted is 'almost'. Yes, while internet is said to be ubiquitous, it can be truly omnipresent if it is well configured with notebook computers. The WiFi technology combined with laptops seems just that enticing feature that will allow people to access the internet everywhere. Most recent laptop models now encompass the WiFi technology that allows people to access the internet at certain selective hotspots around the world. This can be highly useful for people who are very web savvy and also those who need to be in constant touch with their business or online life. Notebook systems that incorporate this technology can be termed as a WiFi laptop.

WiFi is an abbreviation for Wireless Fidelity and is based on the IEEE 802.11 standard. It enables transfer of digital data at speeds capable of matching broadband speeds. The things required to setup or complete a WiFi laptop are an antenna, an internet connection and a laptop that has the capability of supporting WiFi. One needs to set up an access point using a specially designed WiFi antenna. Using the internet connection, one is almost ready. The last prerequisite is a laptop that supports WiFi. Most laptops that are being released nowadays are usually WiFi enabled but it is always more safe for the customer to check if a particular version or configuration supports WiFi. WiFi laptops are especially handy when one knows all the hotspots in a given area. This knowledge can be obtained either on the internet or by visiting places that offer such information. Also required are WiFi directories that facilitate quick connection of a WiFi laptop to the internet when the user is in a hotspot.

WiFi laptops however, aren't entirely problem free. One major concern is security. The WiFi system acts as an attractive entry for hackers and other users who frequent malpractice. If this technology needs to be sustained, strict and innovative security measures are the order of the day. Another disturbing aspect of the WiFi laptop is that the WiFi technology is not stabilized and is incessantly undergoing changes. This results in a fairly high probability that the average user may get frustrated with the technology. An obvious drawback is that a WiFi laptop will not be able to access the internet everywhere but only at certain hotspots around the world. It is also rumoured that WiFi Laptops pose serious health threats to young children. This is still far from our internet everywhere goal. One can only hope that further advancements in this direction work to clean out all the aforementioned problems to provide internet for people who are constantly on the move.
